When we look at how Jesus made disciples we see that there were times of intentional teaching and key concepts He wanted His disciples to understand. Similarly, Paul made sure to give foundational teachings to those he discipled. We find these in the epistles, primarily. As we have been on the journey of making disciples in our current culture, we have identified some foundational aspects of following Jesus where teaching seems to be needed. We call these "discipleship essentials." We recommend that these areas be covered in your discipleship groups. Since we see the value of DBS, the resources we have available regarding discipleship essentials are for the leaders.
